More and more companies are recognising our efforts and dedication to a green and fair energy transition, marked by the empowerment of women in energy and related industries.
We are proud to introduce our newest corporate partner Rijeka Gateway, the largest private project in the logistics sector in Croatia, an investment of estimated €380 million. During its operational phase, the terminal expects to create more than 300 jobs. As part of the aspiration of this joint investment by APM Terminals and the ENNA Group, Rijeka Gateway places sustainability at the very top of its priorities.
The terminal will be predominantly powered by electricity, with supply secured from sustainable energy sources provided by ENNA Next. Ships at the terminal will have the option to switch off engines during loading and unloading while alongside and will instead be powered by electricity from the terminal side, so-called shore-power. Cranes will feature soft-landing technology for quieter container handling, and all terminal equipment will replace traditional beeping sound signals with white noise. Furthermore, Rijeka Gateway will implement technologies to reduce light pollution and various wastewater systems to protect the sea.
This commitment to sustainability was highlighted by Peter Corfitsen, CEO of Rijeka Gateway: “From the very inception of this project, our vision for Rijeka Gateway was to make it more than just a driver of economic prosperity for Rijeka, the region, and Croatia. We want to be a good neighbour, doing everything possible to minimise the terminal’s negative impact on the environment and the local community, while creating new employment opportunities and fostering sustainable growth.”
Rijeka Gateway also champions equality and strives to create more opportunities for the advancement of women. One such initiative is the naming of the “Square of Strong Women”, where four Ship-to-Shore cranes will bear the names of Rijeka’s heroines.
Rijeka Gateway, welcome and we are looking forward to our cooperation!
