We are especially pleased that JP EPBiH, the largest power utility company in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has joined our network. As a key player in the electricity market, EPBiH plays a significant role in the regional energy system. The core activities of JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. – Sarajevo include electricity generation, electricity distribution, supply, and electricity trading.
Given that its portfolio includes coal-fired thermal power plants that generate nearly 73% of the total electricity supplied to end customers, and that the EPBiH Group includes as many as seven coal mines, the issues of a fair and sustainable energy transition are particularly important.
EPBiH’s strategic focus is the development of new renewable energy power plants, including hydropower plants, wind farms, and photovoltaic installations. Projects for the construction of new green generation capacities are being intensively prepared. The implementation of new capital investments is strategically aimed at increasing the flexibility of the energy portfolio and improving energy efficiency, in line with EPBiH’s mission, vision, and business policies.
This partnership marks an important step in expanding our collaboration across the region. Working with such strong stakeholders enables us to more effectively advocate for a fair energy transition, one that takes into account local communities, environmental challenges, and real economic needs. We will focus on exchanging best practices that have proven successful in Croatia and on more actively involving women from the energy sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina in our mentoring and educational programs.
In the context of the gradual phase-out of coal from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s electricity mix, integrating the perspective of gender equality, increasing women’s participation in the energy transition, and promoting social justice are essential elements of responsible transformation.
